Since this is Room For Horse – we thought it was probably about time we scoured the web for some amazing barn and stable conversions. It would seem that the horses are making room for us.
The Flemish Barn, Bravel – Netherlands
This Flemish barn was originally built in 1800 and used for storing hay and equipment. Although when the project started it was in its original condition it was in terrible disrepair. Architecture firm Arend Greonewegeen converted this historical building into a modern office space. Their goal was to retain the original character and still connect the building with the surrounding countryside – while bringing its functionality into the modern age.
The Mews Conversion, Alcácer do Sal – Portugal
Set against the backdrop of an iconic agricultural region in Portual, architects Atelier Data were given the directive to convert former stables into flexible housing units while maintaining the overall structure and look of the stables. The result is a elegant, minimalist building on the outside, which is reflected in sparse concrete finishes of the inside.
The Horse Barn, California – USA
The Horse Barn is one of eight cabins on the holiday home of Ellen DeGeneres recently featured in Elle Decor. Set in a hidden valley near the mountains of Santa Monica, the property was originally a working horse farm. DeGeneres has converted the cabins on the 26 hector property into individual self contained barns each with a different theme.
